The drive up to Kilifi runs along the B8 coastal highway, the same road that continues on to Watamu and Malindi. From Miritini you head north through Nyali and Mtwapa, then cross the Kilifi Bridge into town. Tarmac the whole way. Under normal traffic, it's about an hour. Add 15 minutes or so during the morning rush or on a busy holiday weekend.

About Kilifi

Kilifi sits on a creek, not just a beach, and that's what sets it apart from most of the Kenyan coast. The town spreads across both sides of the Kilifi Creek, joined by a bridge that's become something of a local landmark. The water here is calmer than the open ocean stretches further south.
